After downloading Ace of Arenas and playing it on my Samsung Note 2, I was completely amazed with this game. In my opinion this is the closest thing on having a DOTA 2 gameplay experience on your mobile phone. Controls are very intuitive that will allow any player to move around and cast certain skills with so much ease. Menus are easy to understand and the graphic details are quite good at “Medium” setting. To get the best experience from this game, you should play it via WiFi or whatever stable data connection that you can have.
Similar to DOTA 2, there are several game modes that you can choose depending on your preference and of course resources like mobile phone specs, connection etc. But before that, I’m happy to say that in addition to playing it online you can also play this game offline. In offline mode you can try playing against bots. And just like in playing it online, there’s 1vs1, 3vs3, 5vs5 and Timeless Enclave mode. Did I forgot to say that 2vs2 was only available online? Yes and that is weird. I did try playing in the Offline mode but I got stuck in the Loading… screen. 🙁
Timeless Enclave mode can be regarded as a “fun mode” wherein playing is much easier because of certain features giving any players an advantage if used at the right time. Features like splash damage, health regen, dash x 2 and auto buy and sell feature anywhere in the map were available at your disposal so use them wisely. Also in this mode remember that winning rate is not affected. If you want to have fun playing this game, this mode is for you.
By the way, in addition to the versus modes, there’s also the “Matches”, “Room”, “Ranked” and “Casual Play” which are expected to be available soon.
Game play mechanics is almost the same in DOTA 2 but much easier because you are limited to taps and swipes. To win the game you need to defend your base (or Core) and destroy the enemy base. Playable characters or “champions” can be bought or if they are free you can use them for a specific time only. Customization like skins are also available for each champions. In addition to these you can also buy gems, hero talents and weapons that enhances a specific champion. Attributes in these items aren’t that high but will improve the visual effects of the champion itself.
For each champions there are 3 skills available as of this game version (ver 184.108.40.206). Casting a skill can be done in two ways, you either swipe up (Hero) the attack button or swipe down (Mob). Or you can just tap the skill and depending on your last action on the attack button, it will attack accordingly the Hero or Mob.
Items and gears defines a winning game or otherwise. In all modes except the 5v5 mode, there’s the autobuy feature in which you don’t need to manually select the core items that your champion needs. Autobuy will kick in once you are near the shop given that you have the right amount of gold. Sorry but there are no pets here that will allow you to fetch bought items for you.
Excited? Download Ace of Arenas now and have fun! As of version 220.127.116.11, installer size is 57 MB excluding the updates needed after the installation.
